Seam tape curling nightmare, fixed with a pizza cutter trick

For years I used the standard seaming iron and roller, but last month on a job in Austin the tape kept curling at the edges no matter what I did. I switched to running a cheap pizza cutter over the seam before ironing to score the backing just enough, and it laid flat perfectly. Has anyone else tried scoring the backing first or got a better fix for those stubborn rolls?
