Noticed a huge shift in how clients prep subfloors since 2020
Back in 2019 maybe 1 in 10 jobs had the old tack strip left in or a painted concrete slab, but now it feels like every other house in Austin has someone who tried the peel and stick route first. Are you guys seeing more DIY prep disasters too, or is it just the flip market out here?
Man, my buddy in Round Rock ran into this last month. He pulled up carpet in a 70s ranch and found two layers of peel and stick tile glued right over the original vinyl, plus some kind of self leveler that never cured right. Took him and a helper three extra days just to scrape it down to something he could work with, and the homeowner swore up and down they had no idea it was under there. Sounds like the flips and the DIY videos are both feeding the same problem.
