Hot take: I quit carrying the pad stapler and went back to the manual one in Phoenix
Fifteen years ago I would not leave the truck without my pad stapler on my hip, but last spring on a 3 bedroom beige cut in Phoenix I left it in the truck on purpose and finished the whole job with my old manual hammer tacker. I bought the pad stapler back in 2009 for $340 and I loved it on stretch-ins, but it started jamming on the thick pad and I got tired of fighting it at every seam. The manual one is lighter, I can feel the staple seat by hand, and I finished the front room in under an hour which is faster than I was going with the pad. My knees felt better at the end of the day too, which I did not expect at all. One thing I do miss is the speed on tight closets where I cannot swing my arm, so I still keep the pad stapler in the truck for those spots. Has anyone else gone back to hand tools for pad work, or am I just getting old and stubborn?
