Finally figured out seam tape after a job at the Masonic Lodge on 3rd
I was doing a big commercial carpet job last Tuesday at the old Masonic Lodge downtown. The seam tape kept bubbling on me no matter what I did. One of the older guys there who was framing out a room next door came over and said my iron temp was way too high for the backing on that carpet. I backed it down to the middle setting and let it cool for 10 seconds before rolling. No more bubbles. Has anyone else had that issue with high-pile commercial carpet?

Ha! I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I actually think your problem was the carpet itself, not the iron temp. Those high-pile commercial carpets are junk for tape work, they bubble no matter what you do because the backing is so loose and cheap. I've seen guys waste hours tweaking their iron like it's some science experiment when the real fix is just using a different carpet or switching to glue-down. @jade885 I know you love your temperature theories but sometimes it's just bad materials, not Goldilocks magic.

Temperature is always the secret variable nobody talks about (the Goldilocks of every trade, really). Same thing happens with my vinyl plotter at home - too hot and the backing curls, too cold and nothing sticks. @anna_hill I bet that extension cord incident taught the same lesson about heat and backing materials the hard way.
