Back in the day, cutting carpet around stairs was a real pain...
We only had basic utility knives and had to guess the angles. I remember spending hours trying to get a clean fit on those curved edges. Now, hook blades make it so much simpler with just one smooth cut. My hack is to swap to a fresh hook blade at the start of any stair job. It stops the carpet from fraying and gives you a perfect line every time. I wish I had this trick when I was learning the trade. Saves a lot of hassle and looks pro.

Fresh blades make all the difference on tricky corners.

That hack about swapping to a fresh hook blade at the start is smart... but I actually change mine after the first couple of stair cuts. Even a new blade can start to go a little dull on those first tough curves, and that's when it might tear. A quick swap right then gives you that perfect sharp edge for the whole rest of the run. It's a tiny change but it makes the finish even cleaner.

I did something similar last week cutting laminate flooring. Changed blades right after the initial doorway cuts, which are always rough. The rest of the planks went down super smooth.
