Walked a custom build in Nashville and the stringers made me cringe
New house off West End, the stairs have a 3/4 inch gap where the stringer meets the drywall, clear as day. Did the framer just not care or is this some new style where gaps are fine? Has anyone else seen this pass inspection?
Used to be pretty chill about gaps like that. Figured it was hidden behind trim or caulk anyway. But then I saw the stair skirts in my buddy’s place, and the whole wall had that same 3/4 inch gap. It just looked cheap, like the framer didn’t even set a level. Changed my mind fast. Now I get why inspectors flag it, it’s a sign the whole staircase is probably racked.
