The nail gun stat from a fastener rep in Akron that still bugs me
A rep for a fastener company came through our site in Akron six months ago and dropped a number I can't get out of my head. He claimed that on a typical framing crew, about a third of the nails shot out of a gun end up in the wrong spot, buried too deep, or get fired twice into the same spot. I thought he was just pushing his coated nails, but then I watched my own guys for a week and counted the misfires on a 2,400 square foot build. It was closer to one in five for us, which is still a lot of wasted time and bent nails. What got me was the framing on a house we did off Kenmore Boulevard where we had to back out almost forty proud nails before the shear panel went on. I started checking tip pressure and bump firing less, and it made a real dent in the rework. So how are you all setting your guns to keep the sink rate honest without slowing the whole crew down?
