The lead guy on the Oak Park job said my stairs were "pretty" and that was the best insult I ever got
I built a set of open riser stairs for a reno in Oak Park and I was proud of them, clean joints, everything flush. The lead walked up and down twice, then said "they're pretty, but you can feel them move a hair on the third step." He was right, I had skipped glue on the tread wedges and just nailed them off. Now I glue and screw every wedge, no matter how small the stair, and I have him to thank for the habit. Anybody else get a backhanded comment that ended up fixing a bad habit?
