Sanding for days is overrated on most jobs
Many carpenters insist on endless sanding. I get great results with half the time and proper prep.

Exactly! Prep right and you hardly sand at all.

Using 120-grit paper on oak trim, I skip the fine sanding if I seal it first. A good sealer fills the grain so you don't need to sand it super smooth. I just sand enough to remove any dust nibs after the sealer dries. This cuts my sanding time down to like a quarter of what it used to be. Prep with the right products makes all the difference.
