Remember when you had to sharpen every chisel by hand before a big job? I just pulled my old set out of storage and realized I haven't touched a sharpening stone in maybe 8 years.

I was cleaning out my garage in Tacoma and found my first set of Marples chisels in a rusty toolbox. The backs were all pitted. It hit me that I switched to a Tormek system around 2015 and just buy replacement blades for my main set now. The edge is perfect every time, but I kinda miss the quiet ritual of it. Does anyone else still do the full hand-sharpening routine, or is that skill pretty much gone from the daily grind?

My old Marples set is in a similar state in my basement. I get the ritual thing, but honestly, I don't miss spending 20 minutes per chisel trying to get the angle right. The Tormek just works. It feels like making a big deal out of what is basically a solved problem now (like complaining you have to charge a cordless drill).

Joke about my old chisels looking like a crime scene next to @margaret_singh1's Tormek - guess I'll stick to charging batteries for now since my "hand sharpening ritual" is really just "messing up edges for 45 minutes.

Eight years without touching a sharpening stone is wild to me.
