Question about the way people are using pocket hole screws now
I keep seeing guys on jobs around Portland using 2 1/2 inch coarse thread screws for everything, even on 3/4 inch plywood. It's a mess because the points blow out the back and the joint gets wobbly. I learned the hard way on a built-in bookcase project that you need to match the screw length to the material, usually about an inch and a half for that thickness. Has anyone else had to fix a project where someone used screws that were way too long?

Nah, it's not everyone. Some crews still take the time to pick the right screw length.

Totally get that! Watched a buddy try to use 2 3/4 inch screws to hang cabinets on 1/2 inch drywall once. Crazy part is the cabinets are still up but there's a nice little screw tip poking out the back of every single one.
