PSA: I thought those Japanese pull saws were just a gimmick
My buddy in Denver kept telling me to try one for trim work, so I finally bought a 240mm Ryoba from Suizan. The first cut on some oak crown molding was so clean I didn't even need to sand the edge. Has anyone else switched over for finish carpentry, or do you still stick with a Western saw?

Honestly thought the same thing for years... my old crosscut saw felt like wrestling a bear just to get a straight line. Switched to a pull saw for some picture frame miters and it was like the saw was doing all the work for a change. Still keep the old one around though, mostly as a reminder of how much I used to sweat over simple cuts.

Weird, I had the total opposite experience. My pull saw just skates around on harder woods and feels flimsy. I'll take the control of a stiff western saw any day, even if my arm gets tired. Different strokes, I guess.
