Noticed a push for more minimalist trim work in recent jobs

Honestly, clients seem to want cleaner lines with less detail these days. Tbh, I just finished a porch where they asked for simple, flat casing instead of anything ornate. It made the install faster, but getting those long cuts perfect was tricky. Ngl, I kind of like the look, even if it's less traditional. Makes me think the whole 'less is more' idea is really catching on in builds.

Used to be all about adding detail with crown and thicker profiles, but man the clean stuff really grows on you. Seeing it in magazines and show homes made me get why people want that simple look now. It just feels more current, like the house can breathe without all the busy trim. Kinda surprised myself how much I prefer it for modern remodels lol.

Once you go clean, all that detailed trim starts to feel dated.

My grandma's 1920s bungalow has original crown molding in every room and it's gorgeous. That level of craft is something you just don't see anymore. Clean lines can look cheap if the build quality isn't perfect, like they're just covering up mistakes. All that simple stuff is gonna look just as dated in ten years when the trend changes again. Good trim work has soul and makes a house feel permanent, not like a temporary show home.
