Learned why my chisel kept chipping after a buddy saw me sharpening it

I was grinding a 25 degree bevel on my bench chisel and he told me to drop to 20 and polish the back first, now my mortises come out way cleaner after 3 tries, has anyone else dealt with this micro-bevel thing?

Oh goodness, have you tried leaving just a tiny micro-bevel on the very edge to stop that chipping entirely?

Stella307's right bout that microbevel, I read it stops fractures by making a tiny second angle at the edge.
