Just finished my 50th custom shelf - didn't think I'd care but I was wrong lol

I hit 50 custom built-in shelves this morning and honestly wasn't tracking the number at all. A customer I did a shelf for back in February sent me a text saying she loved it and it got me counting through my job photos. I do a lot of basic shelving for closets and living rooms so 50 in 7 months surprised me. Most of them are pretty simple melamine or plywood with basic edge banding but each one pays the bills and keeps my cleaning business clients happy. It made me realize how consistent work adds up when you just show up and do the job right. Anybody else keep track of a random milestone like this or am I just a nerd lol?

Bet you never thought your cleaning business would turn you into a shelf-making machine. That's the thing nobody talks about - how side skills just sneak up on you when you're already in people's homes fixing stuff. One customer mentions needing a closet organizer, you build it, next thing you know you've got a whole second business. Do you ever tell your cleaning clients about your shelf work or do you keep it separate?

That part about side skills sneaking up on you is exactly what happened to my buddy Dave. He went to fix a leaky faucet for an old lady and she asked if he could build a simple shelf for her spice jars. He said sure, whipped it together with scrap wood, and she posted a picture on Nextdoor. Within two weeks he had five different people asking for custom shelving jobs. Now he's got a whole separate business page just for woodworking and he barely even does plumbing anymore. He still goes back and cleans for her once a month though, says it keeps him grounded.
