Is it actually worth it to finish your own basement, or does it cost more than you think?
I finished my basement in Akron last fall on my own, full framing, drywall, and drop ceiling. Total came to about $4,200 in materials, but I spent 6 weekends on it and my wife said I looked like a zombie by the end. A local crew quoted me $9,500 for the same thing, so I saved money, but my joints are telling me I might have just paid with my body instead. For those who do this for a living, do you think DIY basement finishing is smart for a homeowner, or is it one of those jobs where the hidden costs, like mistakes and time, eat up the savings?
