Can we talk about the 100 year old hand cut dovetails I saw at a mill in Astoria?
Stopped by an old mill in Astoria last month and they had this display case with a chest built in 1923. The dovetails were so tight I couldn't even slide a piece of paper between them. I counted 14 pins on one corner and every single one was cut by hand with a backsaw and a chisel. The guy running the place said the builder was a fisherman who only did woodworking in the off season. I stood there for 20 minutes just staring at it, feeling bad about my own dovetails with my router jig. How many of you still cut dovetails by hand on a regular basis, and what saw are you using?
