A retired framer in Boise made me rethink my whole layout approach

I was bitching about a closet redo in a 1920s house, and this old timer, Mike, watched me for a minute before saying 'you're fighting the studs instead of working with them.' He showed me how he marks his plates with a red pencil for load points and a blue one for everything else, all in under 20 minutes. Made me realize I'd been doing the same 3 hour dance for years without questioning it. Has anyone else had a stranger on site completely flip their method like that?
