Warning: pivoting to a new industry after 10 years in one field backfired hard, learned the hard way in Seattle
I left my stable accounting job for a UX design bootcamp last spring, landed a role in 2 months, but got laid off after 6, and now I'm realizing my old connections are gone and recruiters see me as a flight risk, has anyone else survived this kind of restart without losing their sanity?

Oh sure, leaving a stable accounting gig for a bootcamp is basically the plot of every "follow your dreams" movie, right up until the part where the credits roll and you're broke. Six months before a layoff stings, but the flight risk label is what really gets me, because two months of UX work does look weird next to ten years of spreadsheets. Maybe spin the accounting angle back into it and pitch yourself as a UX person who actually gets finance, since that combo is rare and recruiters love a niche they can sell.
