TIL asking for a 50 cent raise at my review got me an extra $2 instead
I work at a garden center in Ohio and my review was coming up in March, so I practiced asking for just 50 cents more an hour because I thought a small number would be an easy yes. My boss looked at me for a second and said the store had just bumped the starting wage, so he could give me $2. I sat in my car after and felt dumb for aiming so low. I was scared of hearing no, but the truth is I never found out what he would have said to a bigger ask. Has anyone else undershot when they asked for more money?
