Spent $300 on a resume writing service that got me zero calls

I paid a company called CareerBoost last month to rewrite my resume. They promised a 'professional, ATS-optimized' document that would land me interviews. I gave them all my info and waited a week. What I got back was a generic template filled with buzzwords that didn't even sound like me. It looked fancy, but it was empty. I've sent it out for over 20 jobs in the past three weeks and haven't gotten a single callback. I feel like I just threw that money away for something I could have done myself with a free template online. Has anyone else had a bad experience with a paid resume service? What did you do to fix it?

Three hundred dollars for a generic template? That is a complete RIP-OFF. How can they charge that much and not even make it sound like you? I would be so mad. Did you try to get your money back or leave a bad review? Those services bank on people being too tired to fight them.

Actually, it was a custom job, not a template. Still felt overpriced for what I got back though.

Yeah the "custom job" part is what gets me. I paid 400 bucks for a resume that was supposedly tailored to my field and it was just fancy fonts with my old job titles copy pasted in. The bullet points were so generic I could have swapped them with any other industry and it would have fit. Total waste of cash.
