Spent 2 years applying to jobs at night when I should've been doing it at 7am
I used to crank out applications at 11pm after work because that was my only free time, and I did that for almost 2 years with maybe 4 callbacks total. A recruiter in Austin finally told me straight up that she opens her inbox at 7am and the first 20 apps get read while the other 200 sit there. Turns out I was showing up as application #187 every single time. I switched to waking up an hour early and sending 3 apps before 7:30am, and I got 2 phone screens in the first two weeks. Same resume, same cover letter template, nothing changed except the clock. It sounds dumb but nobody ever told me this and I wasted 24 months figuring it out. Has anyone else noticed a real difference based on the time of day they hit submit, or is this just one recruiter's habit?
That recruiter habit probably stacks with how the inbox actually fills up, since most apps land overnight and the pile is already huge by morning. Getting in right when she starts reading means you're near the top instead of buried under whatever came in after midnight, and that gap only gets worse the longer the day goes. Posting earlier also makes it look like you actually care, which is a dumb thing to have to game but here we are lol.
