Rant: Told myself networking events were a waste of time for 3 years until I landed a gig from a random chat at one
I went to a local tech meetup in Austin just for the free pizza and ended up talking to a guy who hooked me up with a contract that paid my rent for 6 months, so now I'm wondering what else I've been wrong about that actually works.

Man I had the exact same thing happen at some beer festival thing I almost skipped. Walked out with a lead that kept me employed for a whole year.

@mason_knight thats wild how skipping something can actually be the best move lol. i had a similar thing at a food truck rally last summer, was gonna bail cause i was tired but ended up chatting with someone who hooked me up with a freelance gig that paid for my whole damn vacation. funny how that works out huh

Random chat at one" is exactly how it always happens too lol. I was at a comic con just wandering around and some guy asked me about my phone case, turned out he ran a small tech repair shop and hired me part time for like 8 months. So yeah those random chats can actually pay off big time when you least expect it.
