Quit a stable job after 6 months and took a $9,000 pay cut, best decision I ever made
I was sitting in a cubicle in Austin staring at a spreadsheet when my boss said 'we need more synergy' for the 4th time that Tuesday, so I walked out that Friday and took a junior role at a nonprofit where I actually write reports that get read, has anyone else traded money for meaning and found the trade worth it?

Man, I feel this in my BONES. I did almost the exact same thing two years ago, walked away from a sales job that paid well because I could not sit through one more meeting about quarterly targets. Took a pay cut close to what you did and started working at a small community center, and yeah the money is tighter, but I sleep through the night now instead of lying awake dreading Mondays. The weird part is nobody at my old job got it, they kept asking if I was SURE and telling me I would regret it. Two years later I am the only one of that group who does not complain about work every single day. That "synergy" stuff is a real thing too, like it is a code word for we have no idea what we are doing. Good on you for walking out and not looking back.
