My side hustle plan changed when I actually looked at the numbers

I was dead set on starting a weekend pressure washing business, thought it'd be easy money. Did a real budget after watching a bunch of YouTube videos and realized between the gas, detergent, equipment wear, and insurance? I'd be lucky to clear $12 an hour after taxes. That calculator changed my mind completely. Anyone else ever kill a career idea after doing the math?

Pressure washing looked like easy money on YouTube but the real numbers will humble you fast. Saved yourself a ton of headache by running that calculator first.

Gotta push back a little here, @rose_young. I get where you're coming from, but I've watched buddies start pressure washing with a basic setup and they're pulling in decent cash on weekends. Yeah, YouTube makes it look like you'll be dripping in money after one driveway, but the real deal is just getting out there and hustling. That calculator is smart for sure, but it can also scare people off before they even try. Sometimes you just gotta learn by doing and figure out the numbers as you go.

Oh man, that's exactly what I've been saying too! The calculator is a great tool but it's like looking at the price tag before you even know what you're buying. Half the battle is just getting out there and figuring out what works for your specific area and your specific clients. You can run all the numbers you want but until you've actually done a few jobs you don't really know your own costs or your own pace. And honestly, that first driveway you do might not make you a ton of money but it teaches you way more than any spreadsheet ever could. People get so caught up in being perfect from day one that they never actually start. Sometimes you just gotta jump in and learn the math on the fly, you know?
