My old boss told me to never ask for a raise in the first year, but I got a 15% bump after 8 months by showing my project numbers.

He said 'wait your turn' but I tracked every client I brought in, showed the exact revenue from my big Denver project, and my new manager said the data made it an easy yes.

Nice. Old advice is often just old. Numbers talk way louder than waiting your turn. Good on you for proving it.

Old advice is just old" is a wild take. Some of that stuff sticks around because it actually works, not just because it's old. Throwing out all of it seems pretty short-sighted.

That Harvard study on merit vs seniority really backs you up, @paulperry.
