I wasted $800 on a resume writing service that copied my LinkedIn verbatim

Two years ago I paid a company called CareerPro something $800 to rewrite my resume. They sent me back a document that literally just took the bullet points from my LinkedIn profile and changed a few verbs. I lost two months waiting for revisions that never came. Has anyone else tried one of these services and actually gotten something useful out of it?

Read a post on Reddit where someone said their $1200 resume service just reformatted their old resume and changed a few fonts. Seems like these companies take your money and barely do any actual rewriting.

Wait, did the_robert see the same thread I saw or is this just that common? I paid $800 to a "premium" resume service last year and what I got back was basically my old resume with some bullet points reworded and the margins adjusted. They didn't even catch the typo in my job title from 2019. Total ripoff in my experience. I ended up rewriting the whole thing myself using free templates and honestly got way more interviews that way. Take this with a grain of salt but I think most of those companies are just preying on people who are stressed about job hunting.

Everything's cut corners now, nothing's built proper anymore.
