Had a victory today with an old HVAC unit in Phoenix
I spent 3 hours this morning chasing a weird noise on a 15 year old AC unit in a strip mall off Indian School Road. Turned out it was just a loose fan blade screw, not a compressor failure like I thought. Anyone else ever sweat over a repair that ended up being the simplest thing?

@the_lisa man that screw thing got me too. I had a unit in Goodyear doing this weird thumping sound, thought it was the whole fan assembly going bad. Nope, just one loose screw on the fan blade hub like yours. Tightened it up and it was quiet as a mouse. Funny how the easy ones trick you the most.

Man I had one just like that last summer in Mesa. Took me almost 4 hours on a rooftop unit near Dobson and Southern, listening to this rattle that sounded like the blower wheel was about to fly apart. Ended up being a single screw that had backed out of the motor mount bracket. Tightened it down in 15 seconds and it ran like a champ for the rest of the day. I felt equal parts relieved and annoyed that I didn't check that first. Your mileage may vary but those simple fixes always stick with me more than the complicated compressor swaps.
