Got a surprise $2,500 bonus on Friday and I have no clue how to bring it up in my review
Last Friday my manager pulled me into a room and handed me a bonus check for $2,500 for hitting our Q3 numbers, which was wild because nobody else on my team got one. I've been at this company in Columbus for 19 months and this is the first time anything like this has happened to me. Now my annual review is in 3 weeks and I'm worried that if I ask for a raise, they'll just point at the bonus and say I already got taken care of. A friend said I should wait a full review cycle so it doesn't look greedy, but another friend said bonuses are for past work and raises are for future work, so they shouldn't cancel each other out. I don't want to mess up a good thing, but I also don't want to leave money on the table. Has anyone been in this spot where a bonus came right before review season, and how did you handle it?
