Unpopular opinion: That hot glue gun trick for cardboard edges isn't as strong as plain old packing tape

I saw this build guide that swore hot glue on the cut edges would make my fort last twice as long. But after testing it on a cat castle I made last month, the hot glue edges cracked and peeled within a week. Packing tape held the stress points way better. Found a durability comparison on some DIY site that showed tape outlasts glue by about 3 to 1 in cardboard projects. Anyone else notice glue failing on heavy use pieces?

Ever try a thin bead of construction adhesive instead?
