The cat fort I built from 12 boxes lasted longer than the store bought one
Started with moving boxes from the U-Haul run last spring. Taped together a little castle with windows and everything. My cat slept in it every single day for 8 months. The pet store one with the fuzzy lining? Fell apart in 2 weeks. I think the key was using a hot glue gun between the flaps. Has anyone else noticed homemade stuff holds up way better than the fancy pet furniture?

Wait was the store bought one made of tissue paper or something? Two weeks is honestly impressive for some of that crap they sell these days. My cat destroyed a 60 dollar scratching post in like a weekend and the cardboard I taped together from a Amazon box is still standing after a year. Hot glue is the secret weapon for sure, I think the pet companies know it works too good so they use that weak sticky tape instead. Gotta respect the cardboard engineering though, you basically built a house with way better structural integrity than most real houses.

Ha! RIGHT?! That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. It's insane how these companies charge you 80 bucks for something that disintegrates like wet cardboard while a little bit of tape and an old box lasts longer than most furniture in your house. I feel you on that scratching post thing too, seriously a ripoff. It's almost like they WANT us to get fed up and build our own stuff. I swear the hot glue gun is the most underrated pet supply store tool out there. Keep fighting the good fight for cardboard based cat architecture, my friend.
