Went from a $180 two burner stove back to my old $25 Coleman and my eggs finally stopped sticking
Spent two summers fighting uneven heat and wind guards that never sealed right on the fancy setup, then dug my grandpa's green suitcase stove out of the garage in March and it just plain worked in 20 mph gusts at Lake Wenatchee, so what cheap old gear have you all gone back to?
That line about the wind guards never sealing right really hit home. I had a similar thing with a cheapo Amazon stove that claimed to be "windproof" but the flame still blew sideways every time. My dad's old Optimus from the 70s weighs a ton but it just works no matter what the weather does. Sometimes the old stuff was built to last instead of built to look nice on a shelf.
