Tried using a tarp as a tent footprint and ended up with a swimming pool
So last weekend I thought I'd save some cash and just use a heavy duty tarp under my tent instead of buying an actual footprint. Cut it to size, set everything up near Lake Tahoe, felt pretty clever about it lol. Woke up at 3am to what felt like a waterbed - the tarp stuck out past the tent edges and channeled all the rain right underneath me. Everything I owned was soaked, sleeping bag included. Lesson learned: spend the $30 on a real footprint, they're shaped right for a reason. Anyone else try a budget hack that totally backfired?
