Three trips to the mountains before I found a tent peg that holds in sand
First time I camped near White Sands, NM I thought I was being smart with those lightweight aluminum pegs. Woke up at 3am halfway inside my sleeping bag because the wind ripped the whole thing out. Second trip I tried bigger plastic ones, same thing. It wasnt until my third outing last fall that I finally tried those long corkscrew style ground anchors. That took about 45 minutes to hammer in but they stayed put through a 20 mph gust. Why is this not the default advice? Anyone else spent way too many trips fighting loose soil before figuring this out?

That bit about hammering in those corkscrew anchors for 45 minutes really hits home. But heres my question, how did you even get them started in that loose sand without them just spinning uselessly? Ive tried those on a beach trip once and gave up after ten minutes cause theyd just kick up dust and wobble. Did you pre-soak the ground or use some kind of base plate trick, or did you just brute force it with pure anger and a bigger hammer? Because I feel like the real secret is in the setup, not just the peg type.
