That $18 rain fly kept me dry in a downpour near Bend, but my buddy's $200 tent turned into a bathtub
Two summers back we got caught in a storm at a spot outside Bend, Oregon, and the rain came down hard for about 5 hours straight. I had picked up a cheap $18 rain fly off a clearance rack and rigged it over my hammock setup, and I stayed bone dry the whole night. My buddy spent close to $200 on a tent that claimed to be waterproof, and by 2am he was basically floating on his pad. Turned out his seam tape had peeled and he never resealed it, which cost him like $8 worth of seam sealer he just never bought. Anyone else had a cheap piece of gear outlast the expensive stuff, or am I just lucky?
