Pro tip: Getting the right tension on my new hammock's ridgeline took me 45 minutes of fiddling.
I kept getting a weird sag until I realized the included carabiner was way too big for the cord. Anyone have a go-to brand for smaller, lightweight ones?

Been there, that oversized carabiner is a classic trap. It just lets the cord slip and never cinches right. I switched to the small, keychain-sized ones from a climbing brand like Black Diamond or Petzl. They're way lighter and the gate action is smoother. The weight difference is nothing but they grab the cord perfectly every time. Makes setting up in the dark way less of a headache.

Ever try the ones with the bent gate? That little curve stops the cord sliding out before you lock it. Total game changer for me. I keep one on my pack's haul loop now, never have to dig around. The smooth action Dylan mentioned is key when your hands are cold or wet. Makes the whole process way less fiddly.

I mean I get where you're coming from with the bent gate thing, it does help in theory but for me it adds just enough resistance that it feels clunky when I'm trying to clip and unclip one handed. I used one for a bit on my keychain setup and found myself fighting with it more than anything else, especially if the gate gets a little grit in it. The smooth action on a standard gate is way more forgiving when you're not looking or your fingers are numb, you know? And honestly I've never had a cord slip out on me with a normal gate unless I was using one of those giant cheap carabiners that are way too deep for the cord to even reach the notch.
