Overheard a guy at REI say his $300 tent failed in a drizzle
I was in the tent aisle last Saturday and this older guy was telling the clerk how his expensive 3-season tent leaked during light rain in the Smokies last month. He said the waterproof coating just peeled off after two summers of use. I checked my own tent's tags when I got home and the coating on mine is already flaking. Anyone else notice these fancy tents not lasting as long as the cheaper ones used to?
Laughing at myself right now because my $40 Walmart special from 2019 has outlived two "proper" tents my buddies bought. I treat mine like garbage too, throw it in the trunk wet and everything. Meanwhile my friend's $350 tent delaminated after one season and he just stares at me like I'm holding some kind of secret. Honestly at this point I think the price tag just buys you a fancier way to get rained on, lol.
