Overheard a guy at REI say he tests rain jackets in the shower
I was grabbing some new tent stakes last week and heard this guy tell his buddy he literally puts his rain jacket on and stands in the shower for 5 minutes to check for leaks. Tried it with my old one and found two spots I never would have caught otherwise. Anyone else got a weird gear testing trick that actually works?

Wait, so @park.troy you've actually tried the shower thing too? That's hilarious because I was just telling my buddy about that trick last week. I did it with an old Patagonia jacket I had for like 5 years and found water beading right off the shoulder seam I thought was fine. But here's the thing - I also do the "sink test" for my sleeping bags. I fill the bathtub with a couple inches of water and gently press the bag down to see if any air bubbles come up, which means there's a leak. It's kind of like what I heard someone call the "poor man's bathtub test" back in my scouting days. Not as dramatic as standing in the shower but works just as good for spotting pinprick holes.
