My tent turned into a swimming pool at 3 AM in Yosemite

I set up camp near Bridalveil Creek in Yosemite last July, and it was dry when I went to sleep around 10 PM. Woke up at 3 AM to a massive thunderstorm with rain pouring in through a tear I missed in the rainfly. I had to grab my sleeping bag and scramble into the car for the rest of the night, soaked and shivering. Next morning I patched the tear with duct tape and a trash bag, which held up okay for the rest of the trip. Anyone else ever had a tent fail on them in the middle of the night and had to MacGyver a fix?

Friend had her tent flood in Zion and used a poncho as a tarp until morning.

and honestly @margaretk89 that's kind of a classic move honestly lol. like yeah your tent is flooded so you just grab whatever is dry and call it a night. i've done similar things where i used a trash bag as a makeshift footprint because i forgot mine at home. it's not elegant but it works in a pinch. your friend probably woke up feeling like a survival expert though lmao. those ponchos are surprisingly decent for blocking water when you really need them.
