I went with a 3-season tent for a Colorado winter trip and everyone said I was nuts

Last January in the San Juans, I chose my old Kelty Salida 2 over buying a heavy 4-season tent. I slept fine with a good pad and bag, and saved a ton of weight on the approach. Has anyone else pushed a 3-season tent in cold weather and been fine?

Wyoming's the best for that. Nothing beats those open roads.

Did you catch that article about how some of those Wyoming roads are actually old wagon trails? I was reading about it in a travel blog, said a bunch of the highways out there follow the same paths as the Oregon Trail. Makes sense when you think about it, those pioneers knew the best routes through the mountains. Bet it feels pretty wild driving that same stretch of land now, just way faster and with AC.
