Hot take: the 'easy' tent pole repair kit cost me an entire afternoon

I snapped a pole section on my old Kelty tent during a windy night in the Redwoods. The repair sleeve from the kit seemed simple enough. It took me about 45 minutes just to get the old ferrule out without damaging the other sections. Then aligning the new sleeve perfectly so it wouldn't catch on the tent fabric added another two hours of fiddling. Has anyone found a faster fix for this, or is it always this much of a project?

Always a project.

Wait, @lilychen, does that mean my whole life is a project too? My garden definitely is, and I'm pretty sure my living room is stuck in its own little construction zone.

Right? @lilychen, my garage is a permanent project zone.
