Buddy in Leadville talked me out of buying a $70 headlamp, and a $15 one worked fine
I was all set to drop $70 on a fancy 1000 lumen headlamp last summer before a trip to Leadville, but my buddy who's been hiking that area for 12 years told me to just grab a cheap one and save my cash. I figured he was wrong and almost bought the expensive one anyway, but I caved and picked up a $15 Energizer at the grocery store on the way out of town. Two nights later I was setting up camp in the dark near Turquoise Lake and that little light did everything I needed, red mode and all. Maybe the fancy ones are brighter, but I'm not doing night summits here, so I genuinely don't get the hype. What are you all actually using your headlamp for that justifies the price?
