Wasted $80 on a lens cleaning kit that did nothing

Bought this fancy kit online with special swabs and fluid. Thought it would fix a smudge on my old 50mm. All it did was smear it worse. Took it to a pro who just used a microfiber cloth and a drop of methanol. Has anyone else fallen for those overpriced cleaning packs?

Man, I used to be the exact opposite. I bought one of those big fancy cleaning kits for my camera gear and swore by it. Thought the special fluid and swabs were way better than a simple cloth. Then I had the same thing happen with a stubborn spot on my new lens. Smear city. A buddy who does video production just used a lens pen and a little breath and it was gone in seconds. Total eye opener. Now I just stick with a plain microfiber cloth and some lens cleaner from the drugstore.

Grabbed a LensPen after @spencerl32's advice and now I can't go back to anything else.
