This guy in my shop said all digital cameras are basically disposable now

He brought in a mirrorless camera with a fried board and got mad when I said the repair would cost almost as much as a new one. He told me, 'You're just a parts swapper for junk,' and it really got me thinking about how we explain our value. How do you guys talk to customers about fixing modern gear versus replacing it?

I tell people I'm basically a camera hospice worker. It's a kindness, not an investment.

That phrase really gets at the quiet part out loud. Most people focus on the gear being saved, but what about the memories stuck on the old cards inside? You're not just giving the camera peace, you're maybe pulling the last family photos off it before it goes. That's a different kind of kindness, saving the pictures the owner might have forgotten were even there. Does that happen often, finding old photos still on them?
