PSA: A dab of clear nail polish saved a stripped screw on a Canon AE-1

Had a tiny screw on the film door hinge that was completely stripped, couldn't get any grip. My choices were to drill it out and risk the threads, or try a trick I read about. I put a tiny drop of clear nail polish in the screw head, let it get tacky for about 30 seconds, then pressed the screwdriver in hard. It worked perfectly, the screw came right out. Anyone have a better fix for these tiny brass screws?

Guess my secret is out, I'm the guy who borrows his sister's nail polish for camera repairs! Honestly, it's right next to my tiny screwdrivers now. That trick is a lifesaver for old gear, even if it makes my toolbox look a bit weird. I've also used a tiny bit of super glue in a real pinch, but you have to be way more careful with that stuff.

Seriously, that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Super glue can ruin plastic and metal if you mess up. Maybe just stick with the weird nail polish.

Can't believe you had nail polish just lying around.
