My dad told me to always check the shutter curtain ribbons first on old SLRs

He said it for years, but I never really listened until a Nikon FM2 came in with a sticky shutter. I spent an hour checking the usual stuff, gears and springs. Then I remembered his advice and pulled the curtain assembly. Sure enough, one of the thin fabric ribbons was starting to fray and catch. Replaced both, and it ran smooth. That was last Thursday, and it's been bugging me how much time I wasted. Anyone else have a simple tip they ignored for way too long?

It's wild how often the simplest advice is the hardest to follow, even when it saves you so much trouble.

Tell me about it. My brain will fully know the right move, like "just go to bed early," and then I'm up until 2am doomscrolling. It's like a personal rebellion against my own good sense. I guess we're all just out here making our own lives harder for no good reason sometimes.
