Just realized I've been using the wrong screwdriver for shutter springs for years

Had a Nikon F3 on the bench yesterday, trying to get the shutter curtain tension right. Was using a standard Phillips #1, cursing because the spring kept slipping. My buddy walks by and goes, 'Dude, that's a JIS screw, not Phillips. You're stripping it.' Felt like an idiot. He handed me a JIS #1 driver and it clicked right in, no fight at all. Anyone else have a basic tool mix-up that took way too long to figure out?

Oh man, that's a classic one. I've heard JIS drivers are a must for old Japanese gear. At least you figured it out before you really messed up the screw head.

Yeah @betty_reed61, I keep a JIS #2 in my toolbox just for my old motorcycle carbs.

I mean, how many screws are we really talking about here? My old Honda ran fine with regular drivers, same as what @diana_foster uses on her bike. People make too big a deal out of it sometimes.
