I thought that ultrasonic cleaner was just a gimmick for camera parts
Had a sticky aperture ring on an old Nikon lens that wouldn't budge with normal cleaning, so I ran it through a cheap cleaner from Harbor Freight for 15 minutes. The gunk that came out was unreal, and the ring moves like new now. Anyone have a go-to cleaning solution mix they swear by for these things?

Buddy of mine did the same thing with an old Canon FD lens he found at a thrift store. He used a 50/50 mix of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol and said it worked like magic.

Honestly, most people just talk about the cleaning mix but they forget the water temperature. Tbh I've found slightly warm distilled water works way better than cold stuff for breaking down old grease. Ngl I ruined a lens once using tap water and got mineral spots everywhere. Now I just use a drop of simple green in warm distilled water and it works every time.

Ugh, mineral spots are the worst. I learned that the hard way with some glass shower doors. Warm distilled water is a total game changer for grease.
