Had a shutter curtain spring snap on a Nikon FM2 this morning

Was halfway through a CLA on a Nikon FM2 when the shutter curtain spring just let go. Sounded like a guitar string breaking. I've worked on dozens of these and never had that happen before. Had to order a replacement spring from a parts camera I keep around, cost me about 15 bucks but it set me back three hours. Anyone else run into random spring failures on old mechanical bodies?

Totally agree with you there. Had the exact same thing happen with a Pentax Spotmatic a few years back, just a random spring snap mid-repair. It's frustrating in the moment but at least with mechanical bodies you can usually fix it with spare parts and patience, not like those electronic cameras that turn into expensive paperweights.

Dang, that's rough, but honestly three hours and 15 bucks doesn't sound that bad for a classic mechanical body. I've had way worse luck with random electronic failures on autofocus cameras that basically brick the whole thing and cost way more to fix.
