Got a sticky shutter curtain on a Pentax K1000 from a garage sale last week

Tried cleaning it with lighter fluid like the old forums say but now it's sticking worse, anyone know a better solvent for this specific camera?

Man, that lighter fluid thing is such a trap. It's like how everyone says vodka is the secret to cleaning anything but really it just dries everything out and leaves a sticky film. I've seen people wreck their camera gear trying to fix one simple issue by making it worse with the wrong solution. It reminds me of how people use duct tape for everything then wonder why their stuff is ruined. Have you tried just isopropyl alcohol at 90% or higher with a qtip on the curtain tracks? That usually fixes the sticky without causing new problems.

Vodka is the worst. My buddy used it to clean his record player once and the whole thing smelled like a frat house for a month. The isopropyl trick works way better for most stuff. I had an old gaming controller that got sticky from soda spills, 91% alcohol and a toothpick sorted it right out. People just get attached to whatever hack they heard first and refuse to admit there's a better way.
